As a team, we spend a lot of time glued to our phones, laptops, and cameras – so you could say we’re pretty tech-savvy. We’re always on the lookout for ways to streamline our workflow, simplify the everyday and create high-quality content. Here’s a peek at the apps we use to create banging social media content.
Our fave app for editing Insta Reels for all our clients. The phone app is great but we tend to use the Desktop version for easier editing. We opt for the paid version so we can use the pro features like stabilisation and reduce noise.Â
Ok, technically not a photo/video app as such, but this social media scheduler has its own Media Library. We love this because we can edit a batch of images or videos specifically for socials and pop them straight into Later ready to use at a later date. You can even add tags so you can easily search through the content.
Ok, so this app hasn't been out for more than a few days when I write this. We've not properly tested it out yet, but since we specialise in Instagram - it makes sense we get to know this app too. We want to be up to date with what Insta is pushing so we'll be keeping an eye on the way their editor works.
I'm sure you've already heard of Whatsapp, but we love it for ease of contact with our clients who need to send us pictures/videos in a hurry. WhatsApp will hideously ruin the quality of media unless you a) send it as HD quality (look for that little symbol) or b) send images/videos as a Document instead (basically tricking the app to send it without compression.)
Adobe Lightroom is our main photo editing software - allowing us to tether shoot straight from camera to Lightroom with the ability to tweak as we shoot. The phone app is free and a MUST for any photo tweaks on the go.
This might seem random since it comes installed on some phones, but it's the first 'photos' app that we've found that has a very handy 'stabilisation' button for video content that actually works pretty well. It's worth using the Google Photos app as default so you can quickly stablise phone videos as and when you need to.
This is where we store/share all our photo and video files. It's used as a backup, but also where we share content with other members of the team or with clients. We love that you can colour-code folders and create virtual 'workspaces' to collect files from different folders.
Canva is our essential app for any sort of graphic. Think text overlays for Insta Reel cover photos, carefully designed Instagram stories or simple but effective highlight covers - this has been our go-to for years.
Adobe Photoshop is better for complex photo editing, where you've got to be super precise. We're big fans of the AI Generative Fill tool that helps us remove certain distractions or imperfections we didn't manage to remove in the actual shoot.
All of these apps have a free version, so we’d really recommend giving them a try! Every single photo or video you take could benefit from a little tweak to make it even better, so don’t be disheartened if it doesn’t look how you want it to straight from the camera. Once you’ve nailed the main edit, consider adding some text overlay using the Canva app or similar, it’ll just add that little extra to your social media post.
We’ll occasionally send you emails to nudge you to book shoots for key holidays or update you about availability. Plus, we often share little titbits of knowledge from the mind of a social media manager e.g. how to handle that latest Insta update.
